A representative of the Kufuor Scholars Program has picked up an award in Japan at the annual Bai Xian Asia Institute Summer Program 2019.
The presentation of Norbert Agbemenu and 9 other participants on reducing food waste in Japanese convenience storeswas adjudged the best presentationof the summer program ahead of 8 other presentations.
The annual Bai Xian Asia Institute Summer Program brings together young people from Asia to network, build themselves up, and learn and explore important topics including community building.
This year’s event is under the theme, “Harmonious Coexistence.”
Norbert Kwame Agbemenu who just completed the University of Education Winneba and his colleagues did a presentation on the idea of developing an app that can help facilitate the effective redistribution of food in other to avoid waste.
“We wanted to talk about the food sustainability, loss and waste of food. We realized that the current food waste problem in Japan is particularly horrible. Tons and tons food are wasted everyday. And we wanted find a feasible way to solve this problem,” Norbert explained.
Norbert is expected to present the award to the chairman of the foundation, His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor next month when he and other members of the Kufuor Scholars Program Class of 2022 graduate after 3 years of grooming and mentoring.
Dr. Pascal Brenya who is coordinator of the Kufuor Scholars Program expressed excitement about the award. “They are following the footsteps of their predecessors! We are celebrating all-you, you are indeed our cherished pacemakers and we are proud of you all! Bravo,” he said.
